The Lisboan International School opened its doors in Alcântara, bringing a new approach to international education to the heart of Lisbon. Guided by its mission “to create a community where every child flourishes, in every sense of the word”, The Lisboan offers children aged 3 to 18 a world-class education enriched with the spirit of Lisbon, combining academic excellence with a distinctive character and sense of belonging. In its first school year 2025/26, the school enrols students aged 3 to 14 and will continue to grow alongside them year by year.
Housed in the beautifully restored 1908 pasta factory, the 11,500 m² campus is a place where heritage meets innovation. Original façades and architectural details sit alongside modern learning environments, including cutting-edge science labs, twin libraries, an auditorium, dining and sports halls, and spaces for the arts and design.
The Lisboan delivers a British international curriculum culminating into the globally recognised International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, empowering students to shape their future and contribute meaningfully to the world around them. Alongside core subjects, the curriculum embraces contemporary areas such as sustainability, entrepreneurship, and problem-solving, with strong connections to the Portuguese language and culture.
Learning is personalised through smaller classroom sizes, strong teacher–student relationships, and tailored support, enabling educators to understand each learner’s strengths, interests, and goals. Learning also extends beyond the classroom through the “City as our Classroom” approach, giving students unparalleled opportunities to engage with Lisbon’s cultural, scientific and natural resources.
Life at The Lisboan is guided by the school’s BOA principles: Belong, finding your place in a kind, connected community; Own, taking responsibility for your growth and potential; and Act, making a positive difference in the world. These principles are woven into academic, co-curricular and community life, shaping students into confident, compassionate global citizens.
The cocurricular Lisboan Experience programme takes learning further, offering opportunities in sport, performing arts, sustainability, leadership and outdoor education. As part of the Artemis Education family, The Lisboan is guided by the Artemis Promise, a commitment to climate-positive choices, socially responsible education, and positive community impact. Students learn to embed sustainability into daily life and participate in outreach that connects our community locally and globally.
The opening of The Lisboan marks more than the launch of a school; it marks the creation of a new learning community in Lisbon. Rooted in heritage yet ready for the future, The Lisboan places curiosity, kindness, and connection at its core, giving students the knowledge, skills, and values to shape their own future, and the world’s.
