How Can We Help Ukraine?

Stand With Ukraine
The British Portuguese Chamber of Commerce is committed to assisting with the humanitarian crisis that is unfolding in Ukraine. We have been researching the entities that are assisting on the ground and here are some examples of entities and organizations that are providing support to people who have stayed in Ukraine, as well as people fleeing Ukraine, seeking safety and shelter – and the platforms to support them, should you wish:

Aid on multiple fronts:

Red Cross
The Red Cross is providing food, first aid, clean water, shelter support, clothing, hygiene parcels and medicine, as well as supporting hospitals and healthcare facilities, fire fighters and civil protection units, while also making efforts to help repairing vital infrastructure, homes, healthcare centres, schools and community centres.

Mercy Corps:
The Mercy Corps is on the ground in Ukraine, Romania, and Poland, supporting local organisations and helping people with emergency cash, food, water, and sanitation supplies.Donate Here
Alight:

Alight is procuring medical supplies, food, sanitary items, blankets, and electronics in Poland and transporting them into Ukraine, to groups holed up in bomb shelters or hospitals that need resupplying.

At the Border, is welcoming the people crossing it – with blankets, mittens, hats, and socks, to fight the cold, as well as wheelchairs, for the elderly.

Medical Assistance:

World Health Organization’s (WHO’s)
WHO works to ensure that the Ukrainian population has access to essential care for all health issues, including other pathologies pre-existing the war. Right now, is focused on delivering urgent healthcare to people across Ukraine and refugees in neighbouring countries affected by the crisis.Donate Here
International Medical Corps
As a global humanitarian organization, the International Medical Corps is on the ground in Ukraine, working with health agencies and local partners to save lives and help relieve suffering. Namely providing primary and emergency health services, mental health and psychosocial support, as well as delivering medicines and medical supplies. Is also committed to ensuring protection for women, children and particularly at-risk people during conflict.Donate Here
Medical Teams International
With the goal to deliver life-saving medical care to people in crisis, Medical Teams International is deploying a team to Ukraine and working with partners to ship crucial medical supplies.Donate Here
Sunflower of Peace
Sunflower of Peace is a Boston, USA, based non-profit organization with the current goal of providing medical and humanitarian aid, by paramedics and doctors, in the areas that are affected by the violence in Ukraine.Donate Here
United Help Ukraine
United Help Ukraine is a charitable non-profit organization, based on Gaithersburg, USA, focusing on providing individual Frist Aid Kits for service members of Ukrainian Armed Forces and Territorial Defense forces, as well as hospital equipment.Donate Here

The World Food Programme (WFP)
The WFP is launching an emergency operation to provide food to people fleeing the conflict.

CARE
CARE’s Ukraine Crisis Fund plans to reach Ukrainian people with aid, food, water, hygiene kits, psychosocial support, and cash assistance – prioritizing women and girls, families, and the elderly.Donate Here

Survivors:

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
The UNHCR is providing protection and humanitarian assistance, including emergency shelters, repairs for homes damaged by shelling, emergency cash assistance, and protection – such as psychological support.Donate Here
International Rescue Committee (IRC)

The IRC is on the ground, in Ukraine, working with local partners to support the evacuation of women and children, and provide support, blankets, sleeping bags and warm clothes to people who have been displaced.

In Poland, the IRC is on the ground and working with partners to provide legal counseling, translation services and psychological support to people who have arrived from Ukraine. There, is also distributing medical supplies and procuring essential items for distribution at reception centers on the Ukrainian/Polish border.

Portugal for Ukraine
The Portuguese government has created a platform where companies that are available to heir Ukrainian citizens can fill out a form. Then, the Portuguese Institute for Employment and Vocational Training (IEFP, IP) will map out the Ukrainian citizens’ skills, the places of residence/hosting and the job offers available and will get in touch with the candidates.Offer Employment

Children:

UNICEF

UNICEF is delivering midwifery, obstetrics, surgical medical kits, first aid kits and diagnostic and treatment equipment to temporary storage facilities around Kyiv city and Kyiv oblast, as well as delivering family hygiene kits, baby diapers, maternal health kits, institutional hygiene kits, disinfectants and bottled water to health and social institutions in eastern Ukraine.

And, overall, applying efforts to meeting needs for safe water, health care, education and protection.
