afpop is organising two further seminars in the Algarve on the issues surrounding death in Portugal.  Time has moved on since these were last held and some legislation has changed .  This is an opportunity for expatriates who may have attended the previous seminars to learn about the changes and for those that did not attend to be fully informed on this wide ranging subject that could affect us all.

The Dignified Dying Seminars will again be presented with the cooperation of some of afpop’s partner organisations – Servilusa Funeral Agencies, ESJ Advogados, Blevins Franks and the British Consulate.  The speakers will cover the range of subjects that revolve around what happens when someone dies in Portugal, particularly focusing on those that may have repatriation issues and other legalities to consider.  The topics range from the initial acts required on death – what to do and who to contact; the types of funerals in Portugal; cremation, interment and repatriation; the legal aspect of wills, living wills and organ donation; funeral plans; Inheritance Tax issues and lessening the tax burden on dependents.

The seminars will take place at the Museum in Faro’s walled old city on October 29th and at Boavista Golf Clubhouse, Lagos on October 30th.  Both seminars will start at 10.30 (registration at 10.00).  Entry is free to afpop Members and a charge of 20 euros will be applicable to non-Members, payable at the seminar.  A further seminar on this subject is being planned to take place in the Silver Coast Region in mid-November.

There is a lot of information to cover in the seminars and representatives from the presenting organisations will be available afterwards to answer questions or for private consultations.  Please contact the afpop office on 282 458 509 or by e-mail to info@afpop.com to reserve your place.
